How does an event run?
We provide the musicians, the caller and the amplification. You provide the location, the publicity, the audience and the refreshments. No previous folk dancing experience is needed. The caller is the Master of Ceremonies and will actively engage with the audience and encourage them to participate in the dances. Before a dance, the caller will tell the dancers how to form up into sets and will walk through the dance once or twice explaining the figures of the dance. Once the music starts the caller will start by calling out the figures of the dance until the dancers are confident and can progress on their own.
Examples of calling and music
We play a wide selection of mainly traditional tunes whose origins can
be traced to all parts of the UK. Here are some examples, some including the caller's walkthrough before the dance starts.
| The Woolly Jumper | The Hullican Jig | Country Bumpkin | The Irish Trots |
| The Bridge of Athlone | The Wing Wang Dance | The Cumberland Square Eight | There is a Tavern in the Town |
